Option B: Facing Adversity, Building Resilience, and Finding Joy is the combined effort of Sheryl Sandberg (she of Facebook and Lean In fame) and Adam Grant (a pscyhologist whose research includes how we cope with adversity). The book tells the story of a family’s grief after the sudden loss of father and husband. Each chapter addresses a different challenge in the grieving process, and presents the best tools known to psychology for coping with that challenge.
All in all, it is a beautiful book. Not quite memoir, not quite self-help. I would have appreciated it if the take-home points were a bit clearer, but perhaps that would have made for a less engrossing reading experience. Despite the heavy subject matter, I consumed Option B in two sittings and found every single page touching and life-affirming.
